Headline: Yoakam Plays the "Blame" game
"Dwight Yoakam's Blame the Vain, out on June 14 on New West Records, will be the country singer's first album without longtime producer/guitarist Pete Anderson.
"Some people are expecting it to be dramatically different, but the things that are different are maybe more subtle than people expect," Yoakam says. "It's just probably a little more reckless in a rock 'n' roll sense."
Yoakam produced the album, and Keith Gattis takes over electric-guitar duties. "Keith arranges as he's playing, and I love that about him," Yoakam says.
Yoakam began recording Blame the Vain in June but delayed its completion for four months to appear in two forthcoming films: He'll play a county Sheriff in the Tommy Lee Jones drama The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and a ruthless Texas banker in Bandidas, and action/adventure film starring Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz.
